Founded in 1927, Tilburg University (TiU) is a private non-for profit foundation dedicated to the study and understanding of society. TiU hosts five Centres of Eccellence: INTERVICT, Netspar, TILEC, CoRPS and TiCC.

The Tilburg School of Humanities (TSH) offers a setting for a unique humanities research profile that shows that the Tilburg University mission of Understanding Society is inevitably connected with Understanding Communication and Culture. More specifically, the Babylon Center for the study of Superdiversity within the Department of Culture Studies, focuses on a broad range of research topics and areas, covering issues that occur at the strictly local level as well as on the global level, and creating a sound basis for comparative work and theoretical generalization by means of paradigmatic orientations towards super-diversity, complexity and mediation, with an immediate contact with partners in the field. The paradigm is superdiversity, and the center’s activities can be summarized as:
Developing superdiversity as a research paradigm
Developing superdiversity as an international focus of research in a wider and interdisciplinary body of scholarship
Giving particular attention to the superdiverse aspects of e-culture.
Key research Facilities, Infrastructure and Equipment
HAIT Computer Lab with 25 high end computational servers running Linux and Windows, and advanced machine learning and data mining software packages.
DCI-Lab with portable and stationary equipment and related software for doing experiments and observational studies on communication. The equipment relevant to this project includes a digital camera, tripod and digital audio recorder that will be made available to the researcher.
e-Humanities Lab. A faculty-wide laboratory aimed to stimulate and facilitate Humanities research using advanced computational techniques.
